About

Why we are special:

  • We are bilingual, so we can teach in either French or English This also gives a little “something”, a personal touch to our approach of teaching and training as our experience is based on both French and English traditions and we make the most of both. For example, we like to allow the contact with the horse and we always offer the possibility to our riders adults or children to spend time with the horses on the ground and to learn stable management essentials.
  • We are very good at giving riders confidence (or to restore it) at the same time as giving them a solid technical background. We want our riders to progress but the priority is always that they must enjoy the moments they spend with and on a horse. With younger riders we use a lot of games and we call to their imagination to teach them. Too many people are nervous when they ride but they carry on because they are addicted to horses. At Hop Dog Stables we consider that a good instructor should be able to help improve that confidence as much as anything else.
  • We pride ourselves to be as comfortable with children and adults. We are passionate about teaching any age and any level. In our riding school beginners and novice riders also benefit from the eye and experience of the chief instructor, Maïa.
  • We are a very small team of only highly trusted, dedicated and experienced people
  • The chief instructor and yard owner, Maïa, is besides teaching in charge of the training and the schooling of the livery horses. This means that your horses or ponies are always in the best hands and only highly qualified and experienced people are handling and riding your horses or ponies for you. This way horses are not just exercised, but properly schooled and the instructor who teaches you also rides and looks after your horse so that she can really help you and your horse improve and enjoy each other. Helen Miles, who never misses a thing on a horse is Hop Dog Stables' dedicated groom and supports Maïa in all her tasks.
  • Maïa, has qualified in Saumur, France. She holds the equivalent of the BHSI certificate in the United Kingdom. She has successfully run a riding school and livery yard in Sussex before moving to Kent in April 2011. Prior to this she has trained and worked at various prestigious yards to broaden her experience in all disciplines and at the best level, including a riding school near Paris and the Ecole Nationale d’Equitation in Saumur. She has been riding and schooling horses for some of the most prestigious riders and trainers in France and in the United Kingdom (such as Serge Cornut/Dressage, Nicolas Touzaint/Eventing, Joëlle Cairaschi/Show Jumping, Michel and Mette Assouline/Dressage) before deciding to settle down to run her own yard. Besides running the yard Maïa competes in Dressage and Show Jumping on her own and clients’ horses. She trains regularly with people she deeply admires such as Jennie Loriston-Clarke, Damian Hallam, Sally Thurloway, Serge Cornut and Nicolas Touzaint.
